Maximising Efficiency with Google Duet: Is It Worth It for You?

Whether you should keep using Google Duet depends on your specific needs and preferences. Here are some points to consider:

Benefits of Google Duet:

  • Increased productivity: Duet offers AI-powered assistance across various Google Workspace applications, potentially saving you time and effort in tasks like writing emails, generating plans, creating visuals, and analyzing data.
  • Improved communication and collaboration: Features like dynamic tiles and virtual backgrounds in Google Meet can enhance remote communication and team interaction.
  • Coding assistance: For developers, Duet offers code and chat assistance directly within your IDE, helping you build and troubleshoot applications more efficiently.
  • Personalized experience: Duet learns your preferences and adapts its suggestions over time, potentially providing more helpful assistance as you use it more.

Drawbacks of Google Duet:

  • Cost: Duet AI for Workspace Enterprise currently has a monthly fee per user, which may not be feasible for everyone.
  • Learning curve: While Duet is designed to be user-friendly, there might be an initial learning curve to get the most out of its features.
  • Privacy concerns: Some users may have concerns about the potential privacy implications of using an AI assistant that accesses their data.
  • Limited functionality: Depending on your specific needs, you might find that Duet’s current functionalities are not comprehensive enough for your tasks.

Ultimately, the decision of whether to keep using Google Duet is up to you. Consider your budget, technical skills, comfort level with AI, and specific needs to determine if it offers enough value for you. You can also try the free trial before committing to a paid plan.

Here are some additional resources that you may find helpful:

1. Feature Set

  • Assess whether Google Duet’s features meet your current and future needs. Consider aspects like collaboration tools, ease of use, integration with other services, and any unique features it offers that you find particularly valuable.

2. Integration with Other Services

  • Google products often offer seamless integration with each other. If you regularly use Google services like Gmail, Google Calendar, or Google Drive, Google Duet’s integration with these services could be a significant advantage.

3. Privacy and Security

  • Evaluate Google Duet’s privacy and security policies to ensure they align with your standards and requirements. Google generally has strong security measures, but your comfort level with how your data is handled and used is paramount.

4. Cost

  • If you’re using a paid version of Google Duet, consider whether the cost is justified by the value it provides. Compare it with other similar services to see if there’s a more cost-effective option that meets your needs.

5. Performance and Reliability

  • Consider the performance and reliability of Google Duet. If you’ve experienced issues with downtime, glitches, or slow performance, check if these are isolated incidents or part of a larger pattern.

6. User Experience and Support

  • The overall user experience, including the quality of customer support, can significantly affect your satisfaction with a service. If Google Duet’s user interface is intuitive and support is responsive and helpful, these are points in its favor.

7. Alternatives

  • Research and compare alternatives to Google Duet. There may be other services that offer features better suited to your needs or preferences. Consider trying a few alternatives to see how they compare in practice.

8. Feedback from Others

  • Look for reviews or feedback from other users, especially those with similar use cases to yours. Their experiences can provide valuable insights into the advantages and drawbacks of continuing with Google Duet.

I have enjoyed the better formatting and editing in docs. The image generation in slides was my preferred until I subscribed to Chat GPT plus which I feel does not get blocked or fail as often to generate an image and can also do batches of images in one expression. It does seem like the image generation options in slides are pretty good with the variety but of types one can specify.
I did enjoy the google meet feature to create a customer tailored background but I can also do that in Chat GPT and I have done that and created different images and load them or even just use my own camera.
The coding feature I have not used as I am not doing much coding in Google tools.
I did not feel that the gmail writing assistant was helpful. I do like the auto complete feature of gmail.
I have not had a need to use slides.
I think the Gemini integrations into Gmail and Docs are good and hopefully it will include Slides and Sheets as well at some point.

I think I have my answer and will unsubscribe for now.

NOTE: This is now Google Gemini Workspace
