Today’s curiosity post is a set of thoughts on what to do with used hay. I quick search on google shows a lot of hits for mulching with some warnings about suffocating smaller plants or being careful about any pesticides.
Mulching was the idea I had top of mind so that was good to confirm. We had a lot of muddy water and puddling and had been wondering if wood chips or mulching could help with that in the future.
Compost piles also look like a good option along with using for bedding or even some fun for the pigs to root around in.
I did a little research to see if hay covering the ivy growing across the smaller forest floors we have could be good. I did not find any data that this would be a beneficial strategy.
